Are you wanting to graduate your style and don’t know where to start? Do you keep getting into fights with your spouse over what you can afford financially and/or spatially? Are you color blind or design-deficient or just plain ol’ indecisive? Well, meet Dee Gardner, Kudzu Antiques’ new in-house designer! She’s here to guide you through the upholstery buying process, offer sage advice and a keen eye you desperately need, and even mediate that argument you’re about to have over fabric color. Plus, she’s always in killer shoes. That’s quite a roster of skills, so we thought to investigate:
Dee initially received her undergrad degree in English, with an emphasis on Creative Writing. Pulled to work with more visual elements like pattern and color, she eventually wound up back in school dually studying horticulture and interior design. She now runs her own interior design business, Composition Designs, and still does specialty gardenscaping, interior terrarium, and floral design projects.
So it makes sense that Dee’s foremost source of inspiration is nature, and believes “adding in a bit of outside lends an authentic feel” to an interior space. She describes her overall design aesthetic as transitional, meaning there are the “leading ladies” and “supporting roles” of decor, and thinks it’s important to have a healthy mixture of both. Something large, like a sofa, can be bold in color or pattern, or it can be more subdued and play background to smaller accessories in the room. Though she has a personal affinity for farmhouse style and mid-century, she does agree that every space could use “an accent of black for drama and sophistication.”
Dee’s main ethos is “interiors should reflect the attitudes of those who live within them.” She wants to help Kudzu customers smartly balance their needs vs. wants, and aims to find a solution that can satisfy both. In short, she is ready to turn your house into a warm, distinct home, so stop by Kudzu on Sundays and Wednesdays (click here for Dee’s current availability) and let Dee hear you out. Our custom upholstery sale is going on thru September 21st, so make it soon!
